We are going to Disney...World!

We decided that instead of spending over $1000 on christmas crap this year, we are going to take the family to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  Ange and I both went as teens with our parents.  Then we took Trin when she was just over 1.  Then we took both Trin and Keyra in 2008 and now, we are going again.  The last time we went, we stayed at the All-Star Movies resort on the Disney site.  Staying at Disney is the only way to do it!!!  The deal right now is book before Dec. 17 and get the meal plan for free.  That is around $1000 in savings.  So, a great deal.  We checked the ride requirements and both kids are able to ride almost every single ride.  It is going to be so much fun getting on a ride as a 4-some instead of having to swap riders and have Keyra wait for us all to be done.  Ange and I really enjoy Disney and find that staying on site, you really get immersed in the atmosphere and become a kid again, if only for a short week.  Its expensive, but well worth it.

Happy Halloween

Ok, I am completely falling behind on these posts.  Its been crazy busy this last month.

It was a chilly Halloween in Canada last night, but the girls both had fun.  Keyra tired herself out at about 7:20pm so Trinity and I dropped her off back at home and headed back out for 30 minutes or so.  They got a ton of candy.  Keyra dressed up as a bride, and Trinity dressed up as Smurfette.  Our neighbourhood didn't seem as busy this year as in past years.  Usually we get around 200 kids, but this year, we had 96.  Our last kid came to the door at 7:55pm.  I am sure the cold had something to do with it.  Kids these days are wimps.  I remember being out there while it was snowing.

Long time no post

I feel terrible.  I haven't posted anything in a couple of weeks.  We have been really busy lately.  I had a trip to New Hampshire to see the Sylvania 300 NASCAR race with my dad in there where I was gone for 4 days.  I talked to the family in the evenings through Facebook chat, so that was nice at least.  Then, I get back to have to take Tiger to the vet to find out that he has Congestive Heart Failure and needs to be on medication to prolong his life.  Then, a week later, discover that both Jack and Tiger have fleas.  Keyra is still doing awesome at hockey, Trinity is busy with her gymnastics and I have started hockey as well.  My hockey might be put on hold for a bit as I partially dislocated my knee during my last game.  We had the open house in there for the girls' school.  Trinity is doing well but needs to read more.  Keyra seems to be a social butterfly in the class and tells lots of stories.

First day of hockey

After 2 years of skating lessons, we signed Keyra up for the Initiation Program for hockey.  We really weren't sure what to expect from her as there were plenty of times last year where we had to fight with her to get her on the ice.  I got her all suited up in her gear and away she went.  She skated right out and grabbed a puck and fired it.  She was motoring around really well and taking some really nice slap shots.  She even put a few in the net.  After a short pee break, she went back out and started some more drills and shooting the puck.  I gotta say, that was the most fun I have ever had watching hockey.  It was an absolute blast.

Trinity had her big demo on the weekend, which I missed...again.  It falls every year on the weekend of our year end men's baseball tournament.  Ange video taped it, so I at least got to see it second hand.  After, hockey, ball, and gymnastics demos, we went to a buddy's house for a BBQ and camp fire.  The kids ran around and played some more until they were totally exhausted.

Back to School

As I was leaving this morning, Trin was putting in her new earrings that she got for her birthday.  They are danglers, so I was telling her that she needs to be careful when she is running around and playing at recess.  Her response was, "We don't run around and play on anything anymore, daddy.  We are on the big yard now.".  Man, that was a hard dose of reality.  At least she still gave me a hug and kiss before I left for work.

Keyra seems excited to go back to school as well.  She is still in SK at this point so not much of a change for her.

On a side note, I had the girls out playing hockey on the driveway on Sunday.  Trin thought she would play goalie, and learned the hard way that it was a bad decision.  Keyra has all of a sudden developed a shot.  I know it was just with hockey balls, but she was going top cheese on a few, which zinged right past Trinity's head.  She also hit her in the knee with a clapper.

Monopoly

Keyra is gone to grandma's for the week, so we decided to have a game of Monopoly last night between, Trin, Ange and myself.  Trinity was getting bored near the end as the game was taking a long time, so we ended up calling it.  Although Ange had by far, the most money, Trinity and I had some pretty nice monopolies and I am sure we would have taken her down eventually.

Last week of summer

My mom has Keyra for the week, so we have some time with just Trinity.  Baseball playoffs are here, so I am not sure how much time I will have, or what we will do with it yet.  We are going to head to Ottawa for the weekend to get Keyra and do a few things fun up there before coming back home and getting ready for school to start.

Birthday Party

Trinity had her birthday party on Saturday.  It was at Putt and Blast.  They got mini golf and laser tag plus pizza and cake.  The kids all had fun.  For her birthday this year, she decided that she would take donations for the Animal Shelter.  So, she got lots of dog food, toys and treats.  We will take her to drop the stuff off this week.  I am sure she will be happy to donate much needed supplies, however, I am sure she will be sad for the animals that are there.  I know I would be too.  I am sure that if I went in there, I would not be able to come out of there without at least 2 dogs.  Anyway, it is a great cause, and she has far too many toys and stuff anyway.  We did buy her 2 DVDs though.  Disney Earth and Disney Oceans.  She has been really into watching BBC Life, Planet Earth and Blue Planet lately, so we thought this would be a nice small reward for her.  Trinity and Keyra are both retaining so much of the information that they learn from those documentaries.  I am so glad that they are both nerds like their mom and I.

Upper Canada Village

We took the kids to Upper Canada Village on Saturday.  We met Stacey and Graham there.  Trinity had done a big project this year in school on the Loyalists Settlers, so we thought this might be a neat thing for her to see.  It really is like stepping back in time to the 1860s.  I know this is much after the Loyalists first landed, but it still shows their way of life not long after coming here.  The girls really enjoyed taking everything in and seeing how they made simple things in the old days.  Their minds are little sponges for sure.  They did get to milk a cow and have a horse drawn wagon ride during the day as well as play some old time games like ball in a cup.  Trinity was especially interested in the school house as that was exactly what her project entailed.  She had to recreate a school house from that period of time, and the one at Upper Canada Village was a near replica.  At the end of the day we had dinner at Kelsey's in Brockville with Stacey and Graham and then made a quick stop in at a friend's BBQ in Camden East before the sky let loose and chased us home.

Happy 9th Birthday Trinity

Today is Trinity's 9th birthday.  We are keeping it low key today as we are actually having the birthday party next Saturday.  Gramma and Chuck are coming down today for dinner and cake.  Tomorrow we are meeting Stacey and Graham at Upper Canada Village.  I am sure it will be a lot of fun.

They were back!

We got the girls back on Saturday morning.  They were very tired from a long week with grandma in the north country.  They had lots of stories about swimming in the lake with their masks on and seeing all kinds of fish.  Trinity described one as having long whiskers.  I told her it must have been a mudcat/catfish and she agreed.  I am glad they had fun.  The house was very quiet without them.  We had a lazy day on Sunday.  Trinity is really getting into the BBC Life series.  If you are going to get it, get the one that is narrated by David Attenborough.  He is the original narrator, and is much better than Oprah.  She is learning quite a bit by watching these, so I imagine that she will want to watch BBC Planet Earth and Blue Planet next.  Keyra watches a little bit and has tons of questions, that they answer for her 30 seconds later.  She then gets bored and runs off to play on Webkinz or with Barbies

Now, they are gone to Ange's dad and Vickie's house in Cherry Valley for a couple of days.  I am sure they will get lots of swimming in out there.

Summer Camping

The girls are camping this week with grandma in the north country on Marble Lake.  I am sure they are having fun.  They are coming home this Saturday with lots of stories to tell, no doubt.

First post

I am going to use this blog to sort of chronicle my life with my 2 beautiful daughters and the things that we do together.  Maybe, one day, they will find this blog and they can reflect back on it and the times that we all shared.

As of right now, my daughter, Keyra, is 5 years old.  Although she is rough and tumble, she is still a little princess at heart.  Trinity is just about to turn 9.  She is a highly competitive gymnast and will be competing for the first time this year.  I am actually looking forward to seeing a competition as up to this point, it has only been training time.
